CEO, Roger Welti, Coplax Verpackungen AG

We had the opportunity to conduct an exclusive interview with Roger Welti, Managing Director of our PackSynergy partner in Switzerland, Coplax Verpackungen AG. He provided fascinating insights into their strategy, market trends, and customer-oriented solutions.

1. Coplax has established itself as one of the leading providers of packaging solutions in Switzerland. What strategic decisions and vision have contributed to achieving this market position?

Roger Welti:
“Coplax has solidified its market position through a clear strategy and a long-term vision. A key success factor is our close collaboration with both our customers and suppliers. Long-term partnerships enable us to develop customized packaging solutions that are not only functional but also add real value to the packaging process.

Our focus is on service quality and customer-centricity. We don’t just deliver a finished product to our customers but offer a comprehensive service package. This includes on-demand warehousing, just-in-time deliveries, certifications, and packaging tests, but above all, the development of customized solutions that provide real added value. Through this approach, we deliberately differentiate ourselves from competitors and ensure a high level of consulting expertise.

Originally specializing in export packaging, we have continuously expanded our offerings. Today, in addition to desiccants and corrosion protection products, we provide a much broader range of packaging—from standard carton packaging and adhesive tapes to highly customized solutions for clients in industries such as manufacturing, trade, food, and pharmaceuticals.

Sustainability is a central pillar of our strategy. With innovative concepts such as paper cushioning and filling machines, we increasingly rely on packaging solutions made from 100% recycled materials, strengthening the circular economy. Additionally, we consistently follow the '3R' principle: Reuse, Reduce, Recycle.

  • Reuse: Reusing packaging, for example, through our specially developed cardboard Euroboxes, which can replace plastic boxes one-to-one.
  • Reduce: Avoiding unnecessary packaging materials by precisely tailoring them to the transport goods. This reduces empty spaces, saves valuable storage space, and lowers logistics costs, which in turn leads to lower emissions.
  • Recycle: Using sustainable, renewable raw materials that can be recycled and reintegrated into the circular economy. Many of our products already contain recycled raw materials.

Our vision is to further establish ourselves as the leading packaging specialist in Switzerland. We pursue this goal with innovative, sustainable, and efficient packaging solutions that meet the growing demands of the market and our customers.”

2. How has the packaging market evolved in recent years, and which trends do you see as particularly significant for the future?

Roger Welti:
“The packaging market has undergone a profound transformation in recent years. The demands for quality, speed, and cost efficiency have increased significantly. At the same time, documentation and certifications are becoming more important, which requires considerable resources from packaging service providers.

A key trend is the growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions. Companies are increasingly looking for environmentally friendly alternatives, as sustainability is not only a social responsibility but also offers economic benefits. By using resource-efficient materials, both ecological and financial savings can be achieved.

Another major trend is the increasing automation of packaging processes. Companies are looking for ever more efficient solutions to package products faster and more cost-effectively without compromising on quality or sustainability.

Finally, the ongoing pressure to reduce costs remains one of the biggest challenges in the industry. Companies must develop packaging solutions that are both economically viable and sustainable—a challenge that Coplax addresses with innovative and eco-friendly concepts.”

3. What measures does Coplax take to best meet the individual needs and requirements of its customers?

Roger Welti:
“For over 60 years, Coplax has placed customers at the center of its operations. Our success is based on extensive consulting expertise and the ability to develop customized solutions. Each customer benefits from personal support provided by dedicated, long-standing contacts. This builds trust, enables a deep understanding of specific requirements, and fosters close, partnership-based collaboration. Thanks to our market knowledge, we can offer economically viable innovations that enhance both efficiency and sustainability.

Our goal is to consistently deliver the optimal packaging solution through excellent service quality and customer-specific customization. We achieve this through innovative packaging concepts, sustainable materials, and flexible adaptation to industry-specific requirements.

Another key factor is our strong network. Through close collaboration with partners such as PackSynergy and our well-established supplier network, we can respond flexibly to individual customer requests. This agility allows us to efficiently and reliably implement even the most complex requirements.”
